We are thankful for you, the public we serve. You continue to bless us with your presence, your time, and your gifts. You have become our friends, you make our day with your smiles, and we share tears during the tough moments of life. We are blessed to have you walk through our doors and into our lives. We are thankful for our volunteers without whom we could provide the level of services we do. We are thankful for our elected officials who continue to support us in helping the community. We are thankful for news organizations that help us get the word out about our programs and services. Thank you so much.
The Library will be closed November 22 through November 25 for the Thanksgiving holiday. Please come by early in the week to check out your items for the long weekend.
Thursday, November 26, 1789 was the first time Thanksgiving was celebrated under the new Constitution. It wasn't until President Abraham Lincoln's 1863 Proclamation that Thanksgiving was regularly commemorated each year on the last Thursday of November. There was discussion over the years about the last Thursday celebration making a short shopping season for Christmas and the economy depended on these shopping days. So, on December 26, 1941, President Roosevelt signed the resolution establishing the fourth Thursday in November as the Federal Thanksgiving Day holiday.
