Lily’s Book Review of A Girl’s Guide to Moving On: A Novel
The
story line follows a friendship between a mother-in-law (Leanne) and
daughter-in-law (Nichole) who divorced their spouses at the same time for
infidelity. Leanne turned a blind eye to her husband’s affairs for over 30
years. Nicole discovers that her husband, (Leanne’s son), has cheated after
five years of marriage. Nicole files for divorce and encourages Leanne to take
a stand as well. The two ladies rent apartments right across the hall from each
other.
Each woman
sets out to start a new and independent life. They each cultivate new
friendships. Leanne volunteers teaching English as a second language and helps
to take care of her grandson. Nicole seeks out a support group, assists other
women, and starts a new job as a high school teacher. They both find men that
are out of their comfort zone but are truly devoted and caring.
This was a
very easy and fast read for me. It was written extremely well. It was an inspiring story of courage, love,
and hope. I would recommend this book for anyone going through a divorce. It’s
also just an overall feel good read.
