A few seats are left open for Basic Literacy Skills Class

The library still has a few open seats for October Basic Literacy Skills Classes (day and evening). If you or someone you know would benefit from these classes, please call 903-856-3302 for details or come by the library to sign up.

Did you know the library offers low cost advanced computer classes as well as free basic computer literacy classes? Currently, Friday mornings 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., for only $10, you can get individualized help on specific programs and projects you are working on. We are considering a Saturday morning class for the fall. Let us know if you are interested. Bring your own laptop or use one of our netbooks for this class. Call 903.856.3302 to reserve your seat.

Summer programs are a success

Learn with us. During the month of September, we are offering a free Basic Computer Class on Thursday evenings. If you can’t take advantage of a day class, we will offer this night class. Limited seating is available so you must pre-register. Please call 903.856.3302 to sign up now.

Thanks to our sponsors, friends, and you (yes, you!), our summer programs were awesome this year. Thirteen programs were provided to the public, 300 pounds of food were collected for local food pantries through our program attendance and "Food for Fines" initiative, and 65 sets of school supplies were given away. We offer a very special thank you to the Friends of the Library and Jeannie Campbell, our Story Lady for their support this summer. Pittsburg continues to be the most kindhearted and giving community. We do not do this alone, but with an abundance of help and helpers.

Story Lady Tuesday; Zooniversity Friday - Come join the fun!

On Tuesday the Story Lady will be at the library at 2pm to read to 2^nd-4^th graders. All ages are welcome but stories are geared to this age group. On Friday, Zooniversity, the teaching zoo that comes to you will present a program at 3pm. Bring your new, non-perishable food items for extra chances during the prize drawings. Also, through this week, you can bring in new, non-perishable food items to pay your fines. Call 903.856.3302 to ask how this works.

Basic Computer Literacy Classes

We are having great success with our free Basic Computer Classes and low cost advanced classes. There is such a need in this area, but many potential students are afraid. Read what some of our students and former students are saying about the classes:

(1)“I am so happy with what I have learned in these computer classes. I could not even turn a computer on before coming to this class and now I can open up Google to search for different information. I was also very scared of the computer because I was afraid that I would break it, but I feel so much more confident and do not have this fear anymore. I continue to attend every class that I can in order to practice what I have learned and gain more knowledge about computers.”

(2)“I have learned to start up and connect to the Internet through attending these computer classes. Also, I have learned to look up items that I have been interested in learning more information about, such as parts for cars and motorcycles. In addition to learning to search for information about things that interest me, I learned how to make business cards for my business that I run.”

(3)“Attending these computer classes have been inspiring to me. The instructor has given me confidence to use the computer and not be afraid of it. I have learned to send and receive emails, as well as construct spreadsheets.
